Life is full of surprises
You go to somewhere like London with a definite idea of what you want to photograph but then suddenly the whole plan changes because you see something totally unexpected.

I decided that I wanted to go and see all sorts of touristy things south of the river, like the Curry Sark and the Greenwich Maritime Museum. I even considered climbing the hill to the Greenwich Observatory. It’s a good view from up there, providing it isn’t foggy or overcast. In the right sort of conditions, the building all shimmer in the light. I also wanted to see somewhere which can be easily overlooked – the Queens House.

It is a 17th century house designed, I believe by Inigo Jones. It is presently home to some amazing art treasures. I wanted to see the grand hall – or at least the floor of the hall – and a staircase.

However my progress was arrested somewhat in the grounds of the Maritime Museum by a series of globes – 36 in all which were part of an exhibition called “The World Reimagined” The exhibition aims to transform how we understand the transatlantic slave trade.

The globes, around six feet in height are pieces of artwork by internationally recognized artists. The works aim to explore the world as it is and the world as it could be. Each globe explores an aspect of slavery, emancipation, racial justice, community and hopeful visions of the future.

It’s not really the role of a photographer to reproduce other people’s artwork and for that reason I have tried to show the globes within their context. They are fully explained by following this link Click here

They are only going to be there for another 10 days so het your skates on if you want to see them all.
