To the woods…to the woods
Most of my regular readers will remember Clive Matthews – he took photographs during the Three Rivers Race at Potter Heigham.

A couple of weeks ago he and I visited a Land Rover event just outside Norwich. Clive took some great pictures and I had a massive camera failure…yes I did remember to take the lens cap off, but I failed to activate the auto focus button… doh!

So this week we have Clive, as a guest photographer, suddenly finding himself doing a solo job for me (the round of applause button is somewhere here!) please join in.

The Land Rover event was organised by Breckland Land Rover Club.
Clive and I arrived in my rather smoky Series 3 vehicle and were warmly welcomed by the organiser and competitors. “Follow us,” they said and sure enough we headed off into the hills just above Taverham. Yes there are some hills in Norfolk! These were steep enough for me to have to engage 4 wheel drive.

There followed a series of trial courses for the competitors, through, round but never over the trees – into what should have been mud holes (at that stage there had been very little rain) and back through well located gates.

Fascinating to watch how these ladies and gents drove, manoeuvred, slid and urged the Land Rovers along the course. There’s not a great deal of speed in this sort of event, but plenty of wheel spin and quite alarming tipping of the vehicles. It all makes for good photographs.

Well done Clive.
In the circumstances, I’m thinking of concentrating on less arduous sports with more time to check my focus facility – like shove halfpenny.

All being well I should be back next week.
