You’d think you could get tablets for this!

Boxing Day 2024 dawned at the delectable seaside resort of Cromer in North Norfolk where hundreds of people descended on the town just after 10am. – many of them highly dressed or decorated, some of them semi dressed and a good number definitely undressed.

The reason for the gathering was said to be “the annual Boxing Day Dip into the North Sea.” Really?! I ask you, December 26th in England?

A careful examination of the photos will show that in fact it was a misty, murky morning and not particularly warm. Sea temperature? Who knows, but they were advised by the organisers just to make it a quick “in and out” once. Well, we’ll forget about the people who couldn’t count – I suppose “once” is a difficult number to reckon up to when one is anticipating entering the North Sea in winter.

For those, who like me think the participants were all, in the nicest possible way, barmy, will be glad to know that both a lifeboat crew and beach wardens were vigilant and clearly in control.

Nevertheless, there were plenty of takers who were enthusiastic and determined to make the most of the opportunity – if opportunity is the right word!

No, I shan’t be entering next time. I’ll stick to my old tin tub in front of the fire on a Friday night – sorry no pictures of that!

Happy New Year.
