Punters take to the streets
2026 will mark and important anniversary for the Norfolk Punt Club. It is 100 years since the club was founded and to mark this occasion lots of different events have been organised for the members.

The January event was a treasure hunt based in the city of Norwich. Regular readers may have to dig deep into their memories about the club. Ifotophilia has from time to time featured the Norfolk Punt Club. Back in August 2024 there was a blog about the Punt Championship. (click here and take a look at that and you’ll also see what a Norfolk Punt looks like.

Now you’ve got it.

Well here they are again- or at least here are some of the club on their treasure hunt trying not to get in the way of Saturday afternoon shoppers.

Now that they are all dressed in civvies, if you live in Norfolk, you may recognise some of them. For me – quite the reverse – I can recognise them when they are in their boating gear and wearing buoyancy aids etc but when they are out in their smart casuals they can be harder to spot.

The organisers of the treasure hunt thought it would be easy for me to find them because of the clip boards and colourful maps which many of the competitors were using. So I sauntered up and down the “Lanes” (special name for the streets running to and from the Norwich guildhall) snapping happily. Net result was over 300 photographs in the camera!

Just over 230 had to be removed because they were of people walking about staring at their mobile phones not the delightful maps. No one seriously objected although I got some funny looks (really quite used to those). On the other hand all the competitors returned safely. And there was even a prize for the winner.

Have a peaceful weekend.
