Remembering January

My television was full of all the awful things that happened in January – threats of war, economic ruin, scandals (notice the plural), the plight of refugees and it seemed to go on and on. Bad news upon bad news. So to usher in February I thought we ought to have something a bit different.

The weather in January wasn’t wonderful – bad enough for an ambitious young cameraman like myself (Did you notice the young?) to want to remain indoors and sit in front of the fire and read the travel magazines that constantly drop on to the doormat.

It didn’t even snow very much. I think there was only one day when we got a sprinkling. My sympathy to friends in Scotland who don’t seem to be able to get rid of the stuff.

During the one day of snow there was some movement in a field close by.

So I thought you might enjoy one or two bits of movement I recorded on my camera.

I think there were only two hares and I am guessing I saw a buck and a doe – if not the last shot may take a little explaining.

Possibly they appear in our area more often than we know – of course the white snow does rather make them a little more obvious, but those who know tell me that the best time to catch sight of hares is just before dawn – information that is not a great deal of use to a photographer.

Nevertheless I saw these and I now know where they might be hanging out. However the chances of me getting up quite so early are a bit slim – don’t start expecting wild-life images too often. Growing lads need their sleep! !
