Now and then – a visit to Acton Scott
Maybe you can remember a television series called Victorian Farm.

I think there were six programmes in all. At the time it was very popular. It was screened as a BBC historical documentary back in 2009 (when you and I were young Maggie) about what life would have been like on a farm around 1880. The series was filmed by Lion Films mainly on the Acton Scott Estate in Shropshire.

In those days one could visit the site which was regarded as a farm museum with animals, machinery and local people demonstrating some of the skills which would have been needed two centuries ago.

I visited Acton Scott a number of times with my family and so some of the images I am posting come from those visits. The farm museum ran under the auspices of Shropshire County Council but unfortunately it eventually had to close because of local authority spending cuts.
However we were delighted to see that it is due to open again fully next Spring (2025). The plan is to maintain it as a farm as it would have been just before the beginning of the 20th century.

My wife and I joined one of their pilot tours last week when we were in Shropshire.

Hope you like the photographs – but honestly you ought to go and have a look at it yourself. It is now to be called Acton Scott Heritage Farm Details about it will be posted in due course, but keep an eye on their website.

Have a good weekend – hopefully the summer is looking up.
