Borough Market is just mouthwatering

It’s quite a while since I wrote and produced a blog about food. (No I don’t consider the post about a sweet shop as food)

Nevertheless, food is something I enjoy greatly. I also enjoy healthy food. So where better to look for fresh supplies than a market.

The week before last I found myself wandering round Borough Market in London. I had really intended to go and have a look at Photo London, but at the last minute I discovered that they had moved their exhibition away from its usual location at Somerset House in the Strand to Olympia! And that’s more than a fourpenny bus ride, so I thought I would have a wander round Borough Market instead.

There seems to be every sort of fresh food and produce one could ever wish for at the market and providing one can elbow one’s way through the crowd; it is something of a photographer’s paradise.

Seasonal foods such as strawberries were on display. Now that is how I think one sells strawberries – what a presentation.

If you have a passion for sea food – you’re in luck – either raw or sea produce cooked.

The lady seemed to be enjoying her lobster – and the vat appeared to be cooking shrimps and mussels – without indulging I wasn’t able to tell which. I was not entirely sure that my stomach was up to that sort of delicacy so early in the morning.

I could of course have consumed mushrooms. Later on this year I hope Ifotophilia will be going on a fungus foray. Edible mushrooms then will not be on the agenda, but I hadn’t realised just how many mushroom species can be eaten. (The absence of dead bodies round the stall seemed to confirm that what they were offering was all right.) – not that I was tempted to try.

Lots of fresh veg and food stuffs from particular countries.

From a technical point of view, the market is quite difficult to photograph. The lighting is somewhat restricted – large parts of the market are under cover and flash in a crowded area can be problematic – so much slow shutter work – bracing oneself and hoping that exposures of 1/10 of a second can be managed without a tripod!!

Even so “What a feast.” Maybe this week I have made your mouth water somewhat. Maybe too I have made your eyes water! No? Just scan back and have a closer look at some of those prices!
